Health classes explained
What Preferred Plus, Preferred, Standard Plus and Standard actually mean and what shifts you between the levels.
Term pricing is organized into rate tiers. Labels shift between providers, but the order is standard: Preferred Plus (sometimes Super Preferred or Preferred Elite), Preferred, Standard Plus and Standard, plus extra ratings for bigger risks. Smokers have their own tier system with steeper pricing.
What underwriters look at
Weight and height ratios, blood pressure and lipid levels, grandparent or parent cancer or heart disease before turning sixty, tickets and infractions, medication records, line of work and pastimes, and smoking or nicotine products. Hitting the top class asks for clean marks in almost all areas; Preferred tolerates slightly more variation; Standard Plus and Standard approve managed issues like blood pressure under treatment.
How to use the quote tool
When the form asks about your health, answer truthfully: Excellent corresponds to Preferred Plus, Very good to Preferred, Good to Standard Plus and Average to Standard. Quotes align with that tier; the company verifies the final tier during underwriting. Stuck between two? Request quotes for both and compare them; let the application determine the final answer. An inflated self-appraisal won't cut your final cost; it just makes the estimate wrong.
The Susman Insurance Agency group can direct you to carriers with more lenient guidelines for any specific situation, and that often counts more than the base-level price.
